A Little Diversion

A recent purchase of what can only be described as "magnificent" 28mm Scots from https://www.antediluvianminiatures.com/ has me revisiting a project that I had on the shelf for a season or two, Scots Common army from the Second Scottish War of Independence. To make this all the more tantalizing,  our little Discord hobby group decided it wanted a little hobby challenge this week. So I have this week to render a 'characterful model'. I am now armed with motivation and inspiration. Project this week: The Bruce! ( He may be the hero of the First rather than the Second War of Scottish Independence but how can I resist.)

After some consideration last night I decided , since I have 'painting medieval Scots' on the brain ATM, to give the defenders of the "Stone of Destiny" a proper leader. So I'm going to make a suitable mounted general representing Robert the Bruce as he might have appeared at Bannockburn 1314, when he defeated William de Bohun with a single axe stroke when the later stumbled upon the king reviewing the area of battle alone in front of his troops. Bohun attempted to run Bruce down with his lance and was rewarded with a quick death and the tone of the 2 days of battle was set. I want to use Perry miniatures and sculpts as they are far and away my favorite models to paint and mix well with the models I've already completed. Some slight modifications are required but nothing major.

Bohun about to be on the losing end of a 'short sharp shock'.

This model begins as one of the Perry twins second range of Bretonnians they sculpted circa '91. Early Bretonnian models were overwhelmingly influenced by the Perry's deep interest in history and are patterned ( very accurately at that) on Early Hundred Years War harness and styles. The second range is fairly rare having been cast for a relatively short time before Bretonnians were no longer supported in Warhammer and not to make a reappearance before 5th Edition WHFB was released. The second range is far and away my favorite

Rather than heavily convert one of the GW plastic horses I'm simply going to modify one of the more recently made horses from Perry Miniatures. It should do very well.

So, let's see where this little project takes us...
